First things first

As stated before, the first -more than- half of my life was quite ordinary. A formal education a 9 to 5 job (more of an 8 to whenever). My passions had always been books, movies and traveling. The boring job was just to pay the bills and allow me to follow my passions.

I am telling my history, but I am not interested in a biography or going into  details, at list not for now. I am telling only the parts that I think are worth registering and lead to my current immigrant/digital nomad life.

So, I lost the boring job when I was 42. It was not really easy to find another boring job, so my reasoning was to try something new. I was already bilingual, my first job at 17 was as an English teacher and I had done some voluntary work as a translator before, as well as translated business documents and manuals as part of my boring job, so I was missing only the “formal” certificate, and I studied to become officially a translator. I can talk about how I started in a different topic for those interested in the translation profession. Here, it is just relevant as the means that landed me a digital nomad life and made the immigration move viable.

For a few years I stayed where I was. Already working only on-line, no physical office or boss to answer to, but still in the same house in Sao Paulo, even if freer to visit friends and family. At the time, my mother lived in the coast of Sao Paulo, so that was my first movement. I spent time there with her, enjoying the beach and outdoor life. I also used my adaptable schedule to visit friends that lived abroad and to spend time with my brother that lived in the USA and with him I experienced my first road trip, crossing USA while still working, no vacation needed, only an internet connection.

That freedom of movement and few experiences working while travelling lit up the idea of being a full-time digital nomad, so I started taking advantage of every opportunity I had of doing that and also brought the desire to make the move I ever dreamt of: being Italian and moving to Italy.

About “being Italian” this is a full new topic, and I will talk about it a little because not everyone understands how this works, if you keep reading and following, it will be my next topic.
